Instructions for Emailing Large Picture Files

1.       If the pictures are in an email then Right-Click them and Save them to a folder that you create (such as the My Photos Folder in the example below) on your C Drive, a network drive, or Desktop (My Documents is not the best place for large images).   If they are already on a network drive or on your computer go to Step 2.

1.       Open My Computer, your Desktop or Windows Explorer and Browse to the folder where the files are stored.  The Photos in Figure 2 below are stored on the M drive.

2.       Then Click on the first Photo you want to send.

3.       Hold Down the Shift Key (Keep holding while performing the next steps)

4.       Click the last Photo in the list that you want to send

5.       Your screen should look like Figure 3.

6.       Now right-click over the highlighted area and then choose Send Toà Mail Recipient as shown in Figure 4.

7.       Then you will see a window appear that asks if you want to reduce the size of the images.  Make sure you select the check box to reduce the size.  Windows 7 users should choose the Small or Smaller option. Then it will open your mail message looking something like what you see in Figure 5.

8.        As you can see the size of the attachments have been greatly reduced.  From 1 MB to 48 KB.  But wait, isn’t 48 bigger than 1?  Nope, not in this case.  Because 1 MB = 1024 KB.  So the 1 MB is actually much bigger than 48 K.  Reducing the image size keeps your Outlook from running slow and keeps you from overloading the server with large image files.
