Wendy’s donates Teddy Bears Colquitt County DA

November 7, 2011

Dave Thomas, Wendy’s restaurants founder, was a lifelong advocate for children and adoption. Having been adopted himself, Dave Thomas had a soft spot for children in foster care. In 1990, Dave Thomas accepted President George H.W. Bush’s invitation as a spokesperson for a national adoption awareness campaign. In 1992, he established The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, with the primary goal: to help every child in foster care find a loving, permanent family. Until his death in 2002, Dave devoted his life to spreading the word about foster care adoption, and even testified before Congress in support of adoption tax credits and legislation.

Today Wendy’s continues to carry out his mission in supporting The Dave Thomas Foundation. In 2004, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, in partnership with Wendy’s restaurants, was launched to help raise funds for adoption professionals to find families for children in foster care. As of today the program has expanded to every state in the US, the District of Columbia, and two Canadian provinces.

Stafford Foods owns and operates seven Wendy’s restaurant locations in South Georgia, and is dedicated to supporting its local communities. In spirit of The Dave Thomas Foundation and Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, Stafford Foods – Wendy’s restaurants donated 100 Wendy’s Teddy Bears to the Colquitt County District Attorney’s office. These Teddy Bears will be given to help comfort children that are involved in domestic violence.
